Benishangul Gumuz is a regional state in northwestern Ethiopia bordering Sudan. It was previously known as Region 6. There are several attractions worth exploring in this region:-

The Surma People: While not exclusive to Benishangul-Gumuz, the Surma people reside in this region and are known for their unique cultural practices, including body painting, elaborate hairstyles, and lip plates. Visiting their villages can offer an enriching cultural experience. It’s important to note that infrastructure and tourism facilities may be limited in some areas of Benishangul-Gumuz, so it’s advisable to plan ahead and seek local guidance when visiting.


The Blue Nile Falls: Also known as Tis Issat, these majestic falls are often referred to as the “Smoking Water” due to the mist they create. They are just a short distance from the town of Bahir Dar and can be reached by boat or a short hike.
Gambela National Park: Located in the Gambela region of Benishangul-Gumuz, this park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, hippos, numerous bird species, and more. It’s a great place for wildlife enthusiasts and offers opportunities for safaris and birdwatching.
